The year 2023 has been that year that came with so many expectations and whatnot. Knowing this ahead, we made out our goals, shared them amongst our teams, and then we set to work.

You might be wondering, okay, so, what have you been able to achieve in 2023? We’ve achieved a lot despite the challenges that showed up in different dimensions, let’s dive into what we’ve been up to in 2023 already!

Some of Grazac’s Team members for 2023

From January to June, we focused on upskilling hundreds of talents in front-end web development, mobile app development using Flutter, product designing (UI/UX), and back-end web development using Javascript. This commitment to nurturing different talents was exactly what made us a pacesetting tech academy in Abeokuta this year as word got out and even Vanguard News acknowledged this in a news article.

Another important achievement we made was hosting the 4th edition of Ogun Digital Summit, an outstanding event supported and sponsored by major stakeholders within and outside Ogun state like Ogun State Bureau of IT, AFEX — a leading startup in Africa as listed by Financial Times, EduTAMS — a leading edtech startup in Ogun State and so many others. Ogun Digital Summit was so impressive that it brought together several important personalities who happen to be industry leaders and experts in their respective fields.

Some of these people were representatives from Piggyvest, Emergence Capital, Binance, and SuperteamDAO, to mention but a few. It is important to note that the 2023 Ogun Digital Summit took a better turn as we also introduced a free masterclass and knowledge-sharing session which was free for every attendee. The masterclass and knowledge-sharing session featured amazing trainers like Deborah Dada from Storelab, United Kingdom, Hakeem Akiode, Growth and Marketing Lead at Youverify, and Ibiniyi Obikoya, Senior Software Engineer at Paystack.

In our desire to stay committed to our past talents, we also facilitated internships for them because we understand the significance of them gaining hands-on experiences before being sent out for a job search. We also hosted several webinars to help newbies in tech and also guided those who are on the verge of starting a new tech career.

Another impressive milestone we caught in the bag this year was securing the 3MTT partnership with the Federal Ministry of Digital Economy. This made us the major training providers for 3MTT in Ogun state. 3MTT is a great program spearheaded by Minister Bosun Tijani under the President BAT administration; it aims to train three million Nigerian youths in different tech and digital skills. This program perfectly aligns with our mission to empower youths in Abeokuta and Ogun state, which is why it was such an honour for us to be among the training providers for the program.

While still in the euphoria of this milestone, we celebrated our third anniversary and in the spirit of that, we decided to perform our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by taking a trip to three public secondary schools in Abeokuta to sensitize them about tech and help curb the Yahoo Syndrome. It was such a fulfilling thing to do as some members of our team took out time to simplify and broaden their horizons about tech and its opportunities. The majority of these teenagers were eager to ask questions and know more about tech. We wrapped it up by giving them gifts and encouraging them to start learning tech as they just might end up being our next Mark Zuckerberg.

Like everything with a beginning, our 2023 ended on a lighter mode as we hosted our maiden edition of the Creatives & Techies Hangout in Olumo Rock Abeokuta. The hangout featured speakers like Ganiu Odeyinka from Monese, Estonia, James Ademuyiwa, co-founder of Scalex, and Ifeoluwa Odegbami, a social entrepreneur. The Creatives & Techies Hangout was a rare opportunity for creatives and techies in Abeokuta to network, learn, and celebrate a successful year 2023 together.

In retrospect, our journey this year has further proven our commitment to staying innovative, educating, and fostering community building. As we step into 2024, we look forward to a year of doing better, forging more meaningful partnerships, and consistently contributing to the tech ecosystem, especially in the ancient city of Abeokuta.
